Omega 3 fatty acidsOmega-3-fatty acids are one of the best foods to intake daily and it prevents from many diseases. Regular dietary intakes of omega-3 fats have many health payoffs. This includes the avoidance or reversal of a whole host of illnesses like:

Improves blood cholesterol levels:  People who consume fish, fish oil and walnuts have decreased triglyceride levels. People who eat fatty fish tend to have increased HDL cholesterol and decreased triglycerides.

Lowers Blood Pressure: Omega-3-fatty acids, prevents heart disease and related problems such as high blood pressure, a narrowing of arteries through plaque build up; irregular heart beats and even deaths through myocardial infarction (heart attacks)

Prevention of strokes: Fish oil has been shown to reduce arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat), risk of stroke and helps prevent and treat atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of artery). Fish oil supplements taken after a heart attack cuts the risk of having another heart attack.

Prevents Diabetes: People who consumed omega-3 fatty acids were 33% less likelier to develop type 2 diabetes than men who didn’t. It is recommended that you eat fish twice a week. 

Prevents and improves Rheumatoid Arthritis: Various studies have found that fish oil supplements EPA and DHA significantly reduced stiffness and joint pain of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Reduces risk of Cancer: n Omega-3 fatty acid rich diet seems to reduce the risk and prevents worsening of colon cancer. Women who eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids over many years may be less likely to develop breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Food Sources rich in Omega-3 fatty acids

Fish Oil

Fish oil is probably the most infamous source for omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s are essential fatty acids (ALA, DHS, and EPA), and we need them in order for our body to function normally.


The two most important types of omega-3 fatty acids are EPA and DHA, both of which are found in certain kinds of fish. Salmon is an infamous source of healthy fats, as well as being rich in omega-3s


Both flaxseed and flaxseed oil are fantastic sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Flaxseed can typically be found in the health food section of your local grocery store, both the seeds themselves and ground flaxseed meal.

Coconut Oil

It is not only rich in omega-3 but has many hidden health benefits.


Eggs, particularly yolks have a plentiful supply of omega-3.


Flaxseed, borage and evening primrose oils.
