Health benefits of TurmericTurmeric often called the Queen of Spices was interestingly used in India initially as a dye to color clothes and draw paintings. Much later its medicinal and health values were discovered and has been named as the wonder spice as it has many properties which are immensely beneficial for human body.

Some of the health benefits of turmeric are mentioned below.

  1. Turmeric for Cancer prevention: Turmeric has been known to fight many forms of cancer and also are known to reduce cancerous cells. It is best known to prevent prostate cancers, colon cancers and some form of blood cancers.
  2. Manages Arthritis: Very well known to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis because of its anti inflammatory nature. Also it has antioxidants in itself which fights the free radicals in the body; free radicals are known to destroy body cells. Arthritis patients have reported less swelling and reduced pain when they consume turmeric everyday.
  3. Fights Diabetes: Turmeric is also very well known to control and fight diabetes. It controls the insulin levels in blood. It controls glucose in blood and also enhances the effectiveness of diabetic medications.
  4. Reduces Cholesterol Level: Turmeric have been proven to lower serum cholesterol levels which is hugely beneficial in reducing the overall cholesterol level and thus helps to fight and prevent many heart related problems.
  5. Improves Immune System: Turmeric has a immense antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. This helps to improve the overall functioning of the body by improving the immune system of the body due to the presence of a substance called lipopolysaccharide. Improved immune system results in enhanced body resistance against common cold, cough and flu and many other airborne and waterborne diseases.
  6. Heals Swelling and Wound: In young days when you were hurt while playing football or cricket generally the elders at home would recommend a pack of turmeric and the wound would heal very fast. Turmeric has antiseptic properties and also is very good in reducing swelling of body parts due to sports injury. It is also known to heal many skin diseases.
  7. Prevents Alzheimer’s Disease: Alzheimer’s disease comes with old age due to brain inflammation. Turmeric removes the plaque in the brain and improves flow of oxygen thus slowing or preventing the occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease.
  8. Improves Digestion: Turmeric forces the liver to secret bile which is essential for improving digestion and thus reduces gas and bloating.
  9. Prevents Liver Disease: Turmeric is known to be very good for liver functions. The vital enzymes produced by liver to detoxify blood is enhanced by turmeric.

Based on the above it is very essential to add turmeric to your diet and food plan every day. You can take it in raw form, or add the powder as spice with cooking and can also take turmeric tablets.
